A long-standing resident of London’s FOLD since her earliest appearances, Andrømeda has risen to prominence by skillfully merging the raw essence of rave with contemporary sounds, forging an exceptionally symbiotic connection. Her 2023 debut EP on Bogotá’s Raw Quarter imprint underscored Colombia’s growing reputation for quality techno, followed by appearances on esteemed labels including Gareth Wild’s Ear to Ground, a London techno don and spiritual center of FOLD. She makes her debut on Rant & Rave with the Dark Matter EP, drawing inspiration from previous eras while honing her skills in modular synthesis and hardware production.
The title track’s ominous ambience leads off, evoking the yet-unknown energy thought to hold the universe together; it gains momentum as percussion and foreboding synths drive it deeper into darkness. ‘Lost Planet’ assumes a dark orbit around its subject, buffeted by cosmic wind, asteroid impacts and lurching gravity wells. Sci-fi techno par excellence, ‘Black Hole’ dangerously teases the event horizon, sucking listeners in with each closer pass. ‘El Abismo’ enters the crushing pressure of the singularity itself, slowly self-destructing as incomprehensible forces rip it into rhythmically clattering shreds, then plummets into the realm from which light cannot escape.
Severn Electronics head 7XINS delivers a digital bonus with his extended reinterpretation of ‘Black Hole’, where echoing reverberations of pulverizing leads and hits blasts the original into subatomic particles that gradually recompose themselves into fearsome, expanding chaotic energy.
